EBMUD Ward 3: Marguerite Young

The environmentalists I know are pulling out the stops to get Marguerite Young elected to Ward 3 of the East Bay Municipal Utilities District, trying to unseat a 20-year incumbent. I don't get to vote in this district, but some of you do!

Here's what my friend Nathan had to say:
This oddly shaped seat includes much of Oakland, Orinda and Moraga, and El Sobrante (not Berkeley or Albany). This is a classic battle between 20 year incumbent Katy Foulkes and environmentalist Marguerite Young. Foulkes has focused her efforts on building up supply while Young stresses conservation and efficiency.  The immediate issue is whether the Mokelumne River—a key source for East Bay MUD-- should be declared “wild and scenic”. It’s not EBMUD’s decision but Young argues the designation will protect water quality. Foulkes opposes it, fearing interference with future water supply.  The building trades union, four incumbent EBMUD directors, and Alameda County Supervisor Keith Carson support Foulkes. Young gets the nod from the Sierra Club, Clean Water Action, and the two most environmentalist EBMUD directors—Doug Linney and Andy Katz (both of whom I know and respect).
I'll add that my friend Karen Hester is running Marguerite's campaign (website).
